《思想道德与法治》是根据《中共中央宣传部教育部关于进一步加强和改进高校思想政治理论课的意见》精神，由原来的《思想道德修养》与《法律基础》两门课程合并而成，与其他三门思想政治理论课一起，共同对大学生进行思想政治教育。

《思想道德与法治》以马克思主义、毛泽东思想、邓小平理论和“三个代表”重要思想为指导，以人生观、价值观、道德观和法制观教育为主线，通过课堂教学和社会实践，依据大学生成长成才的基本规律，教育和引导大学生认识自我、认识环境、把握时代特征，帮助大学生树立科学的世界观、人生观、价值观，培养大学生健全人格，使大学生成长为德智体美全面发展的社会主义事业的建设者和接班人。

通过本课程的学习，使大学生对思想道德修养与法律基础基本知识有较全面的认识和掌握，并能运用相关理论解决人生道路上出现的思想道德或法律方面的问题。本课程主要内容包括：绪论，即“珍惜大学生活，开拓新的境界”，针对刚刚迈进大学校门的大学生在生活学习方面面临的不适和困难，分析大学生活、学习的特点，引导大学生提高独立生活的能力，树立新的学习理念，培养优良学风，明确成才目标；第一部分，第一章至第三章，主要对大学生进行理想教育、爱国主义教育和人生观教育；第二部分，第四章至第六章，阐述了社会主义道德的基本理论和价值导向，集中对大学生进行道德观的教育；第三部分，第五、六章部分内容和第七、八章，集中对大学生进行法制观念的教育。
